Pacharida

Pacharida a 9-year-old girl from Surin, lost a leg in a road accident when she was 4. A kind sponsor sent her crutches in 2006, and the Anglo-Thai Foundation has paid her a yearly disability grant of 10,000 baht (£154) for the last 2 years. Pacharida attended the local grant giving at Surin in January 2008 and it was clear that her crutches were now too small.
She was not wearing her prosthetic leg because of problems with the bone in her knee continuing to grow. Arrangements were made for Pacharida to be taken by two trustees to see a doctor in Bangkok, who confirmed that her doctor in Surin had done everything correctly.
The problem was aftercare. The Foundation has bought Pacharida a new pair of crutches (see left), and she and her mother have agreed to make sure she uses the prosthetic leg so that her muscles develop evenly.

Later in her teens she will be able to take a decision about any further operations which may be needed. Her situation will be monitored annually by the Foundation.
